Make Everyday Earth Day
Spring is the perfect time of year to start using energy saving tips. New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program has put together some helpful ways that you can celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd and every day.
Lighting Tips.
Replace your standard incandescent light bulbs with LEDs. LEDs last up to 10 times longer than more traditional bulbs. They also provide the same amount of light but use up to 75 percent less electricity! Did you know? LEDs and CFLs offer many benefits, including: Lower energy costs, a longer life and cooler operation.
Lower Energy Costs with Home Performance.
An energy audit can identify many ways to save energy in your home. As a BPI Goldstar contractor, TIG can perform an audit of your home, and recommend actions that will lower your energy costs. Zero-interest financing and rebates are available through the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Program. Did you know? High utility bills in summer can often be traced to air leaks in your home’s envelope or inefficient, incorrectly installed heating and cooling equipment, or poorly sealed and insulated ducts. An energy audit will pinpoint these items.
A/C Tune Up.
Be sure to turn on your air conditioner to check if there are any malfunctions. Consider having a professional to perform a tune up to make sure your air conditioning unit is performing optimally and to prevent any unexpected breakdowns during the first really hot day this coming summer. Did you know? There are many generous rebates available for high energy efficient heat pumps, central air conditioners and ductless mini-split units. Let us educate you on your options!
Phantom Energy Haunting Your Home.
Despite being “off,” many electronic devices in your home, like cell phone chargers and power tools, stay on and can draw power. Other items that account for this “phantom energy” include appliances like televisions, computer monitors and DVD players. The power drawn is rather significant and can actually account for 5-15 percent of your home’s electricity usage. Did you know? The solution for “phantom energy” is to unplug these devices. Try using a power strip where multiple devices and appliances can be turned off and on with one switch.
